This site works out NHS pay in England from the published Agenda for Change pay circular and the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook. It is independent, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NHS, NHS Employers, the NHS Staff Council or the NHS Business Services Authority.

Why it exists

NHS pay is published, but it is published in pieces: the pay scale in one document, unsocial hours in another section of a large handbook, pension contributions on a third site, and the tax that turns any of it into money in an account somewhere else entirely. Answering an ordinary question — what a Band 6 night shift is actually worth, what maternity leave pays in week 14 — means holding four documents open at once.

How it is built

Every figure lives in a single data file with its source recorded against it, and no figure is typed into a sentence anywhere on the site. Both of those are deliberate. It means the annual refresh is a change to the data rather than a search through prose, and it means a sentence cannot quietly keep last year’s number after the table above it has been updated.

Where a source is silent, this site says so rather than filling the gap. The sources page lists what could not be sourced, and those subjects have no pages here at all.
